It’s time to introduce you to some new things and remind you of the old.

Cleaning and organizational tasks are what I turn to when I need a change of pace. When I need a break from my work, I might go wash dishes for five minutes. It’s not an obsession; rather, it’s a way to reassert control over my environment.

Cleaning can also be a meditation. It can be a time to reconnect the place that makes you feel safe and protected. Touching the items of your home can help you recall memories.

I thought about writing an article and calling it “spring cleaning” but that seemed trite. Also, spring cleaning is not my preferred way to function. While there are a few tasks that I may do just once a season, I prefer to clean up a little each day.

My mother preferred that I do the cleaning on Saturdays before I could go anywhere. Comet, Spic and Span, Gain, and Windex were her favorites. The other tortuous tools that I had to use while at her house were the broom, the vacuum, the iron and ironing board, the sponge, the scrubbing brush, the rag, the mop, the bucket, and good old elbow grease. Goddess help me if it was time for a cookout: Then it was time to use the shovel and metal trash can for poop pick-up duty. Washing dinner dishes was a daily given… and I think…
